Better connections. No boarding pass required.

More than two miles of paths, known as The American Way, connect American Airlines’ Fort Worth campus through a continuous garden. Walking, cycling, and campus cart routes turn everyday movement into an encounter with the landscape.

The larger project reclaimed extensive surface parking, consolidating it into a garage and returning paved areas to native planting. Spaces between buildings became opportunities for ecological repair and a more connected workday.

At OJB, Rachel served as Deputy Project Manager and Design Lead. The work formed part of a larger effort shared across OJB teams, including the Boston and San Diego offices. Collaborators included Corgan, Alta Planning, Pacheco Koch, and Halff Associates.

An underpass beneath FAA Boulevard connects a campus divided by a public road. Winding paths continue through planted slopes and groves, linking outdoor office spaces, collaboration areas, and places to pause.

Over 1,000 new trees provide shade, while native meadows and layered planting bring seasonal change into campus life. An integrated stormwater system captures runoff in a cistern for irrigation, connecting the landscape’s water needs to the rain that falls on site.

Together, these systems make the journey between buildings a useful and enjoyable part of the working day.
